The beauty
and the beast... - My Hersonissos by Cam
|
It all started in May 1998 when my best friend Jeanette had been
on a study trip to Crete with the travel agency she was working for.
Back home in Sweden she said to me: "Camilla, you have to come with
me to Hersonissos in July,
I' ve seen the most beautiful bartender in the world!"
Said and done, we packed
our suitcases for a fiveday trip but thanks to the travelagency
we ended up with 11 days there.
The Hersonissos I met
when I came there was so much more then just a handsome bartender.
I fell in love with the village! |

To come to a town that
is in most countries sold as a partytown and discover so much more
was amazing.
Like the three small villages
just above Hersonissos (Koutoloufari, Piskopiano, "Old" Hersonissos),
the old church with mosaic down by the harbor, the antique greek
theatre next to Star Beach, all the beautiful beaches west of Hersonissos
and all excellent food. (Did you know that the Cretan diet is the
healthiest in Europe?). So much
more than plain party but truthfully speaking that is what I know
best about Hersonissos. :-)

Now, three years and seven
trips later I am still fascinated by the combination of party and
culture. When I after my first holiday in Crete understood that
I was addicted to Hersonissos.
I started to think; how
do I combine the fact that I have a husband and work fulltime as
a midwife with this addiction? Now I know, there is no obstacle.
After two months we where back
again.
So, what is there to do
in Hersonissos and why? What exactly is so great? I promise you,
I'll let you know during the winter. |

Until next time, go and have a nice dinner at your local greek restaurant.
You may also enjoy the night
photos of Hersonissos by Yannis. Soon to be back!

PS: The handsome bartender is still around. :-)
