Zaros is a picturesque village located at the southern slope of the mountain Psiloritis at 340m altitude and 45 kms away from Heraklion. It has about 2.500 inhabitants whose main occupation is farming and stock breeding. There are also quite a few traditional workshops of weaving, painting (icons), and musical instruments.

The village has facilities such as police station, post office, doctor's office and pharmacy as well as small hotels and traditional apartments. There are also taverns with traditional dishes and cafe's.

Near Zaros there are several places for excursions like the Rouvas gorge and the Zaros lake, where you can enjoy your food and coffee at a wonderful landscape.

You can access Zaros by bus from Heraklion.
