The Fortetsa fortress in Rethymnon. Fortetsa is the largest Venetian fortress in Crete and it is very close the centre of Rethymnon. Fortetsa was built from 1573 till 1580 by the Venetians, for the protection of the inhabitants of Rethymnon by the Turkish threat. It is starshaped with three gates and six bastions.
