Samaria gorge - Satellite images of Crete

The gorge of Samaria is the longest gorge in Crete and Europe. The entrance to Samaria is at Xiloskalo, at the south end of Omalos plateau. The exit of the gorge is near the Agia Roumeli town. There are regular ferries every few hours from Agia Roumeli to Sfakia (Chora Sfakion) town.

There are no roads to Agia Roumeli, so the only way out is by ferry. Sometimes it is possible that the weather conditions won't allow for the ferries to leave Agia Roumeli. In this case you will be stuck there until the weather improves, so it is safer to visit Samaria gorge at least a couple of days prior to your departure back to your country.
