The lake of Zaros and the gorge of Rouvas. The lake of Zaros is about one hour south of Heraklion. There is a cafe by the lake and it is nice to walk around the lake and relax under the shade of the trees. For more active walkers, you can take the path to the entrance of the Rouvas gorge and the Monastery of Agios Nikolaos. Hikers wil enjoy the gorge of Rouvas, a 3 hours hike up to a wooded area on Mt. Ida (Psiloritis).
