Crete is special to me because its peaceful and you can enjoy the lazy afternoons where the locals understand you and wont disturb you.
Favourite restaurants in Crete: El Greco, Stalis, check out the pizza's they make for the resturant accross the road, mmmm!
Favourite accommodation in Crete: the Ariadne Beach, luxurious gardens, peaceful and relaxed but just located to be just a few yards from all the fun.
Favourite beach in Crete: at the hotel, Ariadne Beach
You have to see in Crete: Spinalonga island, Chania, Rethymnon, Agios Nikolaos.
Night Life in Crete: Stalis main road, bars, pubs. Check out the "Malia" bar: its run by Joy an irish girl, its not the best and you might walk past it as the sign is rather small, she'll give you a real frendly welcome and the music is just right, also, further down on the left check out the beautiful South Bar, good ale, good music no kareoke.
Off the beaten path in Crete: Mochos village, very old and authentic and a great welcome, as ever in Crete.
When in Crete be careful about the dreaded quads, they are everywhere.
Transportation: bus or coach trip with a guide.
Cultural Tips: Cave of Zeus, the island of Dia not much there to be honest but the boat trip is fantastic.
Favourite Links about Crete: this one.
Additional Comments: on dark winters nights you will dream of Crete and find yourself thinking of it for no reason at all, it is, as scousers say, "boss"!
