Crete is special to me because I feel like i am returning
home when I step off the plane and smell the scent of the herbs, yes even
over the stench of the aviation fluid!
Favourite restaurants in Crete: We have made many
friends in Crete over the years that my husband and myself have been visiting
and have been treated with nothing but kindness on each visit: Petrino
in old Malia, Artemis in Stalis, Amphora in Chania, Kri
kri in Ag. Nikolaos. We have also been lucky enough to visit some
fish restaurants in Iraklion who don't have names written in English so
I'm afraid i can't share them with you!
Favourite accommodation in Crete: Koni appartments
in Stalis, St Nicholas bay hotel in Ag. Nikolaos for the lap of luxury!
Favourite beach in Crete: Elaphonisi at dawn
You have to see in Crete: Elaphonisi, Iraklion and Chania, both
buzzing with life, Samaria Gorge. Any villages away from the tourist areas
Night Life in Crete: Local taverna to eat and drink
in late
Off the beaten path in Crete: If you hire transport
you can very quickly get away from the busy tourist areas. It would be
silly of me to suggest anywhere, what you need to do is set off early
one morning and just drive! Take your time, stop and stare and let you
imagination run away with you!
When in Crete be careful about The sun! use plenty
of high factor sun cream, drink lots of water. The roads, more to fear
from the tourists on motorcycles than most of the locals!
Transportation: Excellent bus service.
Cultural Tips: Treat others as you expect to be treated
and remember that you are a guest in someone elses country. Also don't
be surprised if asked, what we as British perceive to be quite personal
questions, it's just the Cretans being interested

Additional Comments: Where ever else I holiday in
the world, I need to come to Crete at least once a year for my "fix"!!
