Crete is special to me because
there is an ambience like no other, and the impossible has away of happening in Crete!
Favourite restaurants in Crete: many, but especially La Strada in Ag.Nikolaos
Favourite accommodation in Crete: Katerina at Amoudara. Amelia apartments in Rethymnon
Favourite beach in Crete: Elefonissi in the west, Xserokampos below Zakros in the east
You have to see in Crete: take time to wander in the mountain villages
Night Life in Crete: try cafe Kriti in Chania for a late night real cretan feeling, or O 'Gournos in Rethymnon
Off the beaten path in Crete: try places like Tripti (above Kalo Chorio off the Ierapatra road), or inland to Assi-Gonia or Anogia. Don't worry about getting lost, Cretans appear from nowhere in the most unexpected places!
When in Crete be careful about Road signs, they rarely tell the truth!
Transportation: Hire a car or a bike , you will discover places the Reps have never heard of.
Cultural Tips: Crete is adifferent world, respect it, have an open mind and you will learn a great deal. Look for local fly-posters advertising music, if you cannot read greek, ask a local to translate. Last year, we were lucky enough to see the legendary Psarandonis--Unforgetable!
Favourite Links about Crete: anything Crete related. Recomend forget Zorba, read Freedom and Death by same author.
Additional Comments: If you let Crete into your heart, you are in love for ever.
