Crete is special to me becauseIt's one of the few places I've
ever been that when I travel around, I'm always making mental notes of
what I want to see when I come back.
Favourite restaurants in Crete: Golden Heart (Yannis) Beach
road in Stalis / Restaurant Mariana, Mesa Potami.
Favourite accommodation in Crete: Liked everywhere, and will
be staying in Chania and Matala for a few days each in June, but booked
into Gouves this time.
Favourite beach in Crete: Matala...... gotta be. Get a snorkel
and look for the ruined roman pillars just a few yards off shore
You have to see in Crete: Melidoni Caves, road west
from Chania, Vai beach, road from Ierapetra round the south and back
up onto plateau.
Night Life in Crete: Never had a bad night yet! But there can
be places from the laid back, to the boring, to the near deadly ... take
your pick.
Off the beaten path in Crete: Just about everywhere.
When in Crete be careful about Be careful about drivers! Look
out for coaches on narrow mountain roads - particularly in the places
they advertise excursions (Gorges, Village nights etc)
Transportation: I like to travel by hired Car. If you can manage,
don't go bigger than a Panda - the extra power and speed is not worth
the price, as you won't get the chance to use it much and the village
streets won't take them very easily in places.
Cultural Tips: Don't dress for the beach when away from the
resorts. Don't try and pull back the curtains in the churches, give way
to traffic and people who aren't on holiday and smile!

Additional Comments: Generally, the Cretans want you there and
appreciate the good you do for the economy. But remember that they're
not there for your benefit and don't like gawping and finger pointing.
