Crete is special to me because I had the best holiday ever. I have been everywhere in Spain worth mentioning and nowhere comes close to the atmosphere and the weather of Hersonissos.

Favourite restaurants in Crete: the "Windmill" restaurant in Piskopiano.

Favourite accommodation in Crete: "Dream" apts in Old Hersonissos town.

Favourite beach in Crete: Star Beach Waterpark in Hersonissos, Golden Beach in Istro and Myrtos.

You have to see in Crete: Samaria Gorge

Night Life in Crete: Hersonissos has the best nightlife I have ever seen with keen prices although it starts to close at about 4 in the morning, so keep your fridge well stacked.

Off the beaten path in Crete: Myrtos and Agia Fotia.

When in Crete be careful about: Have you ever heard crickets in the evening and night time in Spain? Well, get ready for the day crickets. Dont say i didn't warn you... You cant see them but, boy can you hear them!

Transportation: If you are planning on staying close to the resort then get scooters but shop around the different rental shop for a good price and don't forget the insurance, otherwise if your bike goes missing you have to pay for it.
Idrive a large mototbike myself and i would still reccomend that you rent out a scooter even for a day to get used to driving like a maniac

Cultural Tips: Learn basic Greek.

Anything else: No cockroaches, good weather, very friendly people, lovely beaches, Star Beach, good food and drink. What more can i say, the best holiday destination I have ever been to!
