Reviews of Ariadne Beach Hotel in Stalis, Crete

My words of extreme appreciation do not only go to
the unbelievably friendly staff of Hotel Ariadne in Stalis, but also
to almost all the peaple we came across during our fortnight stay in
Crete between Monday May 2nd 2005 through to May 16th. It is almost impossible
not to like them all at Ariadne, as facts speak for themselves: they
simply go out of their way to make you feel unbelievably well and ...
why not mention it, part of the family !!! ... As Ariadne is indeed a
family business. The manager, the two perfectly bilingual employees at
the recepion desk, Marina and Olga who would always enquire about the
trips we'd made and the plans we had for the days to come, Michalis at
the pool bar or Dimitri at the front bar who had just joined the crew
at Ariadne a few days before we departed ... Name any of them you can
think of and we only just have sweet memories of an unforgettable holiday
time flashing cross our minds ... Though a bit more subdued in the background,
let's not omit to mention the chef and his whole team and the ever-smiling
Popi who would unvariably welcome us with her cheerful "kalimera sas,
ti kanete?" at breakfast
... That alone already coined one's day!

We have just returned from Stalis (26/05/05) having
stayed at the Ariadne Beach Hotel. The hotel is just perfect, very friendly
staff, and beautifull gardens. The pool is just a perfect size for those
who wish to stretch out when swimming. The rooms are very clean, with
maid service every day, sheets changed every 2 days. The restaurant is
very nice, meals served on a buffet service. Typical breakfast, cereals,
cheese, ham, yoghourt, honey. Also boiled eggs, bacon, scrambled egg,
and german sausage. All are swapped every 2nd day. There is also as
much fruit as you can eat, the oranges are out of this world.
Although
the hotel is situated on the main road, there is very little noise.
Now the gripe. We had booked a superior room at least a year in advance,
we did not get what we had paid for. We had the air conditioning, the
t.v.(one english speaking channel), the fridge, but no bath, only 3
rooms have a bath. It was also a side room, not a sea view. We paid £168.00
with direct holidays for our room, the hotel was offering new arrivals
a superior room for 100 euros. Also take at least £50 more with
you for the sun loungers, 1.50 EUR each a day.
The hotel used to be
German only, which is why you will find a lot of them there, but do
not let that put you off this lovely hotel. Also while you are there
go next door to the Ariadne cafe and ask Dimitri to make you one
of his famous strawberry and ice cream dishes, he will do anything to
please you. Would we go back? YES
Hotel Ariadne Beach Review by Mr. and Mrs. Derek Long (UK) - Rating 10 /10
My wife and 10 members of my family have just returned from a two week stay at the Ariadne Beach Hotel in Stalis Crete (27th July to 10 of August 2004).
This is the second time my wife and I have stayed at this hotel. It is a fantastic hotel in luxurious gardens and right on the beach, it is peaceful and quite, it is hard to believe that just outside is the main street in Stalis with all the bars and tevernas along each side.
My only gripe is, we booked 9 months before we went and requested a beach/pool view room. and I am afraid, it is only a request. You just get what they want you to have and save the better ones for people who want to upgrade. I think they only give half a dozen rooms to the tour operator, leaving them lots of room to make a few pounds more. If you are booked into a standard room it is 50 euros per week for the air conditioning hire and 24 euros to hire the safe for 2 weeks.
Don't get me wrong, its a fantastic place but I can't help but feel a bit let down by our allocation of accommodation, we had booked superior rooms but should have just paid for standard and took my pick of the pool/beach rooms.
I have travelled all over the world and I have never paid for sun loungers in the hotel I was staying in. You have to pay for that at the Ariadne.
Apart from all my moaning it was top, recommend it to anyone.

The Ariadne Beach Hotel in Stalis is perfect, right on the beach and close to everything you need, supermarkets, restaurants, bars, bus stops etc. We stayed there in 2003, we managed to get a superior room which is well worth the little bit extra money. The Hotel is bed and breakfast and the food is good.
We are going back there in 2005 and we can't wait. We always have a fantastic time in Crete and Stalis is a mix of everything not too lively but not quiet either. If you want lively clubs and young drunk people go to Malia or Hersonnisos. I love Crete and it's ruggedness and I hope it never changes.
